INSTA*LOVE :: Tom Windeknecht :: @tomwindeknecht

Super excited, our INSTA*LOVE series is featuring the uber talented, inspiring, pink-sky-creating, Tom Windeknecht :: @tomwindeknecht! Probably one of the nicest guys on Instagram and one of the prettiest feeds too! I know… I clearly have a thing for neon and pastel but how could you not when you come across these awesome photographs?!
Where do you live?
I live in historical Redlands, California. It's a great little town between Los Angeles and Palm Springs.

What do you love/love to do?
I love photography, Instagram, coffee, art museums, ice cream and Asian food (but not necessarily in that order). I also love traveling with my wife, Laurie, and experiencing new places.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by so many things: nature, colors, art, architecture, old signs, history, etc. I am also inspired by other photographers and artists and how they see with their eyes. That's one of the things that I love about being on Instagram - there are so many great photographers and artists that view what they are shooting differently. My wife is a huge inspiration as well, she always encourages my photography and creativity. She is a painting artist, so we enjoy our creative outlets together and support each other.
What do you look for when taking a photo?
I primarily look for lines, shadows, patterns, colors and shapes. I like clean, minimal compositions with bright colors. These are the largest components of my work. I really try to force myself to look at things from a creative perspective, a smaller perspective, and not just the whole picture. For example, instead of seeing the whole building, I will try to look at corners, architectural details, or angles of the building.

What are your favorite apps and filters to edit with?
My favorite app is Photoshop. Most of my edits are done with Photoshop and my Wacom tablet. Sometimes I will do some editing on my phone with the Lightroom app or Snapseed. I just downloaded A Color Story app and have been playing with that a bit.
Who are your favorite fellow Instagrammers?
Seriously can’t get enough of those pictures! The detail and textures are incredible. And can we just take a minute to take in those colors?! WOW! Those first two shots just kill me! So cool. Definitely check out his colorful feed :: @tomwindeknecht for some more amazing eyeporn! You can also find him on his website :: www.tomwindeknecht.com and on Twitter and Facebook too!

A very special thank you to Tom for participating in our INSTA*LOVE Q&A!

Palm Springs Iconic Home Tour

As some of you may know, this week is Modernism Week in Palm Springs, California and we had the unique opportunity of touring the newly named historic site, the Menrad House, designed by William Krisel. It was the perfect balance of casual flow and minimalist simplicity. All I can say is I wanted to move in right then and there. Loving this retro design and those clerestory windows allowing for all of that natural light without sacrificing ones privacy. That artwork is fantastic and the bedding in that master bedroom...  love . This patio cover is to die for. A genius way to provide a bit of shade without feeling closed in. The design is so simple but the overall effect is absolutely stunning. Apparently, these homes sold so fast that a brochure was never even produced to promote them. I snapped a few shots of the neighboring houses and will share them soon. Next up, a tour of vintage trailers and caravans on Saturday. Can't wait to get inspired for wh

Purple Power Juice

As we wrap up our 3 day juice reboot , I find myself thinking about this fruity concoction we enjoyed on day 2 . A strong, berry burst with a bite of ginger, perfect as a morning pick-me-up. Remember, fruit is best consumed in the morning on an empty stomach because it moves through your digestive system much faster than other foods. 6 cups of concord grapes 1 green apple 1/2 cup of blackberries 2 2"  pieces of ginger (I used 1 1" piece because ginger is super strong) Enjoy! xo Sécia Check out our other juice recipes  here !
