INSTA*LOVE :: LORI DE BUHR :: @artzeminimal

Today I get to feature one of my very favorite Instagrammers! I'm in total INSTA*LOVE with the lovely and super talented Lori de Buhr :: @artzeminimal and her dreamy feed! Her super bright minimalist shots in neon pinks and blues and greens are mesmerizingly fun and funky. It's like her own little candy-colored dream world!
Where do you live?

I was born and raised in beautiful Vancouver, BC, Canada and continue to call the west coast home. My husband is also a Vancouverite. He’s in the long haul trucking business and I’m very fortunate to be able to travel with him. It’s a fantastic way to explore North America and I appreciate every photo opportunity along the way!

What do you love/love to do?

Photography is my number one hobby for sure. My friends and family know I never leave home without a camera (which is usually my iphone these days). Time off is spent travelling to new places, checking out local art or chilling by the beach and of course snapping photos. When it’s not raining in my hometown (a rarity!), I appreciate living in a city where you can hit the ski slopes in the morning and bike around the city’s waterfront seawall in the afternoon. Can’t get better than that, eh!
What inspires you?

Motel and vintage signage, architecture, nature, public art and anything linear and colorful. Browsing other IG accounts with similar interests is another awesome way to get inspired.

What do you look for when taking a photo?

I’m always taking photos for fun and never take it very seriously so whatever catches my eye at the moment. For this account, I try to challenge myself to concentrate on a minimal theme and make a point to stop and look up or down to get different perspectives.
What are your favorite apps and filters to edit with?

Snapseed is my go to app for basic adjustments (cropping, straightening, exposure) then I use a variety of apps for adjusting colour.  My fav is Diptic but I also use DeluxeFX, PicTapGo and Mextures.

Who are your favorite fellow Instagrammers?

mattcrump (my inspiration to start this account and play around with candy color edits), rarabro, teber, riellea, tomwindeknecht, squaresnaps, fresharchitect, formatieren, colorado_sunshine, bungalow22, just to name a few. So many super talented IG’ers out there!
Her photos are crazy cool right?! I love her use of negative space and the amazing skyporn she creates with such brilliant colors! Even cooler is how much her photos compliment each other in her feed. It's like a bag of candy! If you're not already following her, you are doing your eyes a grave injustice! Check her out: @artzeminimal and make sure to say hi!

And a very special thank you to Lori for taking the time for our INSTA*LOVE Q&A! You're the best!

Palm Springs Iconic Home Tour

As some of you may know, this week is Modernism Week in Palm Springs, California and we had the unique opportunity of touring the newly named historic site, the Menrad House, designed by William Krisel. It was the perfect balance of casual flow and minimalist simplicity. All I can say is I wanted to move in right then and there. Loving this retro design and those clerestory windows allowing for all of that natural light without sacrificing ones privacy. That artwork is fantastic and the bedding in that master bedroom...  love . This patio cover is to die for. A genius way to provide a bit of shade without feeling closed in. The design is so simple but the overall effect is absolutely stunning. Apparently, these homes sold so fast that a brochure was never even produced to promote them. I snapped a few shots of the neighboring houses and will share them soon. Next up, a tour of vintage trailers and caravans on Saturday. Can't wait to get inspired for wh

Purple Power Juice

As we wrap up our 3 day juice reboot , I find myself thinking about this fruity concoction we enjoyed on day 2 . A strong, berry burst with a bite of ginger, perfect as a morning pick-me-up. Remember, fruit is best consumed in the morning on an empty stomach because it moves through your digestive system much faster than other foods. 6 cups of concord grapes 1 green apple 1/2 cup of blackberries 2 2"  pieces of ginger (I used 1 1" piece because ginger is super strong) Enjoy! xo Sécia Check out our other juice recipes  here !
