mega weekend

friday night:

We came home to our new KitchenAid mixer (from mom and dad) and a Dwarf Citrus Tree (a gift from our Realtor) on the doorstep... and a sick puppy in the kitchen. :(

and our honey to do list:

saturday:

Painting day! Cooper was feeling a little bit better and played outside in the fresh air for the day. Looks kind of like Dexter is about to go to his dark place in that first photo.

It's a tradition in my family to eat McDonald's while moving. There's something about chowing down a burger and fries while your new home is in disarray. We did one better and had yummy, made-to-order cheeseburgers from Top Bar Burger instead. So good!

We greatly underestimated this painting fiasco. We started at 9:30AM and were wrapping it up 12 hours later! In our defense, we decided last minute to tackle the hallway too including its ceiling. Cooper was tired of spending the day outside playing (so as not to shed all over the newly painted walls) and was very happy when we finally let him inside. He was exhausted and unenthusiastically watched as we pulled all of the painter's tape from the walls.

sunday:

Ben tackled a little project of pulling a bunch of old bird's nests out of an old air duct on the side of our house. He must have pulled out at least five old nests! He re-screened the vent so they will no longer be building a home inside of ours. Sorry, birdies.

I made him a glass of ice cold water with lemon and mint fresh from our garden. We've decided we need to have a pitcher of it in the house at all times this summer.

After a nice afternoon walk with Ben and Cooper to the grocery store (to pick up chocolate chips) it was time to fulfill my promise to Ben. Chocolate chip cookies made using my new KitchenAid mixer.

I used a recipe from a cookbook that came with the mixer. They tasted great but we prefer a flatter cookie as oppose to a fluffy one. I guess this gives me an excuse to just keep on baking until we find the perfect recipe. If you like a fluffier cookie you can find the recipe here.

It was a perfect first weekend as homeowners. I even had a moment to create some cute new gift tags with an old typewriter I bought from work. I'm giving away the set to the first person who comments on how cute they are (or about the highlight of their weekend). Please leave your email address so I can contact you.

I love hanging out with my boys and I LOVE my new mixer!

  1. Haha! We had bird's nests in our house too and a nest under the patio roof (which I left there until the babies grew up and they all moved). I start painting the studio interior tomorrow. 4 coats because I have to seal and prime new drywall:/
Sounds like it'd be a lot more fun with lemon mint water and cookies;)

  2. We'll bring you over some of our lemons and mint... along with the cute "i love you" tags. :) Ben drove me by your addition. It's huge! I love it. Can't wait to see it all finished.

  3. I'd like to place an order for more cookies cause the ones you just baked are GONE!

  4. Awe, honey. How does banana bread with dark chocolate chunks sound? Or perhaps rainbow cupcakes with sprinkles?

Palm Springs Iconic Home Tour

As some of you may know, this week is Modernism Week in Palm Springs, California and we had the unique opportunity of touring the newly named historic site, the Menrad House, designed by William Krisel. It was the perfect balance of casual flow and minimalist simplicity. All I can say is I wanted to move in right then and there. Loving this retro design and those clerestory windows allowing for all of that natural light without sacrificing ones privacy. That artwork is fantastic and the bedding in that master bedroom...  love . This patio cover is to die for. A genius way to provide a bit of shade without feeling closed in. The design is so simple but the overall effect is absolutely stunning. Apparently, these homes sold so fast that a brochure was never even produced to promote them. I snapped a few shots of the neighboring houses and will share them soon. Next up, a tour of vintage trailers and caravans on Saturday. Can't wait to get inspired for wh...

Purple Power Juice

As we wrap up our 3 day juice reboot , I find myself thinking about this fruity concoction we enjoyed on day 2 . A strong, berry burst with a bite of ginger, perfect as a morning pick-me-up. Remember, fruit is best consumed in the morning on an empty stomach because it moves through your digestive system much faster than other foods. 6 cups of concord grapes 1 green apple 1/2 cup of blackberries 2 2"  pieces of ginger (I used 1 1" piece because ginger is super strong) Enjoy! xo Sécia Check out our other juice recipes  here !
